Why is my resume being renamed?
Understand resume filenames, display names, and the file selected for an application.
Last updated 15 days ago
Simplify may give an uploaded resume a filename based on your name, such as First_Last_resume.pdf. Renaming changes the filename, not the content of the file. A resume’s name in Documents helps you organize versions; check the selected resume and attachment before submitting an application.
Which name changes?
The upload dialog shows the filename Simplify will use. On the free plan, this is based on your first and last name, followed by _resume. The file keeps its PDF or Word extension. Simplify+ gives you a filename field when uploading.
This naming convention helps identify the applicant’s file. It is a Simplify convention, rather than a requirement shared by all employers or applicant tracking systems.
Names in Documents and on applications
You can use a descriptive builder resume name to distinguish versions, such as “Product analyst” or “Backend engineer.” When Copilot attaches a resume, the attachment filename may use the name-based convention instead of that internal label.
Renaming does not change the experience, wording, layout, or other contents of an uploaded file. An employer receives the file selected for the application, so preview the resume and check the attachment rather than relying only on its name.
If the name is incorrect
Check your first and last name on your Simplify account, then review the filename shown before uploading. If the attachment contains the wrong resume version, choose the correct resume in Copilot or upload the correct file before submitting.
